Selma Blair is back on the market. "I'm single." So when did she split with boyfriend Matthew Felker? "Oh, it was a while ago," the star explained at the L.A. opening of the new Kiki De Montparnasse lingerie store. "While I was in Budapest [filming Hellboy 2]." Blair, 35, and the model-actor (best known as Britney Spears's kissing partner in the "Toxic" video) met through mutual friends. They and had been dating steadily since her divorce from Ahmet Zappa last November. "I've just been reconnecting with my friends," Blair says of life post-boyfriend. Before catching up with Ashley Olsen (who was also on hand for the launch), Blair was game to pose with some of the store's more provocative wares – namely leather whips and gold-plated handcuffs. Surrounded by lace slips and garter belts, the actress said her newly single status doesn't lessen her love of lingerie. "I have a lot of it, but mostly for myself," she said. "It just makes you feel beautiful." And that, incidentally, is also what she's looking for in a man. "I want someone who makes me feel good," she said, adding with a sly smile, "if you know what I mean."Tuesday, December 4, 2007
Selma Blair single again
Selma Blair is back on the market. "I'm single." So when did she split with boyfriend Matthew Felker? Nicole and Joel donate $200,000 in baby gifts
Not many kids have a foundation launched in their honor before they're born. But that will be one of the many privileges bestowed upon Nicole Richie and Joel Madden's baby, due in January. The couple hosted a surprise baby shower Monday for 100 expectant and new moms at the Los Angeles Free Clinic in Hollywood, where they handed out more than $200,000 worth of gifts. "The looks on their faces were priceless," Richie told reporters after the shower. "Some of them didn't even believe us [when they saw the gifts]. They thought we were joking." The Richie Madden Children's Foundation (at richiemaddenfoundation.com), Madden said, was an idea the couple had when they found out they were expecting. "We grew up in Los Angeles," he said, "and we want our child to be a part of the community, and to know that there's a responsibility to help the community." And it's a family affair. "We named it the Richie Madden Children's Foundation because we each have families and our families are close, and our family is involved," Richie said. By her side with his arm stroking her back during moments in the conference, Madden quipped, "We're lucky that we have families that get along and love each other," adding, "I think it's great that our child will grow up as a part of that family." Amongst the goodies given to families in need were Baby Bjorn products, cribs, mattresses and toys from Fisher-Price. "Everything they got, we got," Richie says, "so everything that will be in their nursery, will be in our nursery." Madden felt good about the event. "Sometimes people don't want to believe that me and Nicole are just a young couple having a baby and we're really excited. We don't really get to share our lives with people. It's nice to connect with people on a real level."No nudity for Julia
Enjoy seeing Julia Roberts in a bathing suit in her upcoming political drama Charlie Wilson's War (out December 21) because it is unlikely to happen again. Joining the ranks of Brad Pitt, the mother of three now says she prefers not to prance around in the buff on the big screen. “Listen, there's a reason why you don't see me naked me in movies, you don't see me running around in bathing suits in movies," Roberts, 40, told E!'s The Daily 10. "It's just not my thing." (No kidding: Roberts famously used a body double to shoot nude scenes in Pretty Woman.) Separately, interviewer Sal Masekela revealed an obscure fact about the mother of three (who welcomed son Henry in June): she almost shared an on-screen kiss with Don Johnson on Miami Vice. Roberts was once slated to appear on the show as the character Polly Wheeler. She jokingly chastised Masekela for raising the issue: "Do not show a clip!" she pleaded. "Let me tell you something: I was falling ill while in Miami and ended up with spinal meningitis. Got sick down there, the sickest I've ever been in my life. There's a little-known fact."Scott Weiland arrested for DUI
Scott Weiland has been arrested for DUI. The Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver singer was driving on an L.A. highway around 6:15 PM on November 21 when he crashed his car. While the California Highway Patrol was investigating the non-injury wreck, they noticed Weiland appeared to be impaired. According to the police report Weiland failed sobriety tests and refused to take a blood or urine test. He was booked for "driving under the influence of a drug. "He was released on $40,000 bail and will be back in court on December 13. Weiland is no stranger to run-ins with the law. He was busted for buying crack in 1995, domestic violence in 2001, DUI on his birthday in 2003, and allegedly trashed a hotel room while brawling with his wife. A rep for Weiland said, "Scott Weiland was recently involved in a minor accident in Los Angeles and denies he was driving under the influence. He voluntarily took a breathalyzer test which the defense believes registers well within the legal limit. He is anxious to get to court on December 13 and clear this matter up."Britney's birthday weekend
No tabletop dancing, no outfit swaps and no walking around barefoot. Britney Spears — who turned 26 Sunday – celebrated her birthday at the Scandinavian Style Mansion in Bel Air on Saturday with cousin Alli Sims, pal Sam Lutfi and her back-on BFF Paris Hilton. The gang sang “Happy Birthday” as Spears blew out candles on a small chocolate birthday cake. Two enormous body guards shielded her table. It was a night to remember for the birthday girl, who scored $30,000 in leather and fur coats — including a $7,000 fur-trimmed white leather coat — at the gifting suites from high-end designer Katja Berglund. “She was very calm, nice, friendly,” Berglund said. “I know she's had some bad times here, but I think she looked really great.” After leaving around 12:45 a.m., Spears and crew continued the festivities at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills. Hilton was spotted leaving at 3:50 a.m. Spears spent her actual birthday Sunday with sons Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 14 months. Meanwhile, it seems Spears may have finally made a good decision. The train wreck, who hasn't done much publicity for her new album, "Blackout," besides her daily run to Starbucks to get photographed, has pulled the plug on a potential Rolling Stone cover, said an insider. Spears was close to signing a contract with editor and publisher Jann Wenner, to pose for the cover, but called off talks when the Wenner Media boss refused to promise her it would actually land on Rolling Stone instead of Us Weekly, said the insider. Last year, Nick Lachey was duped into believing Wenner's promise of a Rolling Stone cover and was furious when he landed on Us instead. "It was going to be a good platform for her music to be taken seriously because it had been so long. But she refused to get screwed by Wenner," said our source. "They kept negotiating, and it got nasty." Spears has contacted Blender magazine, and a deal is being worked out for a cover there, said the source. A rep for Rolling Stone said they were "exploring a cover" but never had a discussion about any kind of contract.
Brad's eco-friendly good deed
Brad Pitt expects the foundations to be built for at least 150 eco-friendly homes in New Orleans' Lower 9th Ward by the end of next summer. "I'm hoping we can expand here and expand over into the rest of New Orleans," the 43-year-old actor said Monday morning in an interview on NBC's "Today" show, as he walked through the devastated neighbourhood. The initiative, called Make It Right, is Pitt's latest effort to help the area recover from Hurricane Katrina. Pitt has also worked with the environmental organization Global Green USA to build five single-family homes and an 18-unit apartment complex and community centre; earlier this year, he and Angelina Jolie purchased a mansion in the city's French Quarter for US$3.5 million. Pitt has pledged $5 million of his own money toward the project and - calling himself "not much of a salesman" - was campaigning for more donations for the cause. "I mean, this is really an adopt-a-house campaign," he said. "I'm asking for foundations, for high net-worth individuals, for church groups, for corporations to come in and adopt a house - basically, $150,000 will get a family back in their home." Pitt has teamed up with 13 architects for the project, and explained that each home will be built on stilts as a precaution against the threat of flooding. He said design requirements for the homes were "affordability, sustainability, safety - and that they be beautiful."
